IIn August 2005 the practice were selected as a shortlist of six to take part in an ideas competition to masterplan an area of green space on the northern side of Truro Cathedral in Cornwall. The site has a strong relationship with the town at one end and the river to the other. The Old Cathedral School is situated opposite the Cathedral; this is currently leased out but is due to come back into their possession soon. The brief asked for new restaurant facilities at ground floor level, to re-address the link between the Old School Building and the Cathedral and to improve disabled access. We proposed a scheme that dealt with the full length of the site linking town to river. It was suggested that the space be used for outdoor performances and events. A new restaurant building was proposed overlooking the riverbank. The scheme is tied together with a new sinuous network of paths that connect the various access points. |
